Lahti calls its residents to participate in the international architectural competition
13 April 2012
The city of Lahti has launched an international architectural competition for the area by the railway station and the railroad. Including the citizens through a variety of workshops plays an important role in the process. The rules require architects to follow the discussion at the competitions website at http://www.radanvarsi.fi/en and note the views of the inhabitants of Lahti in their competition entry.
“City dwellers have started the work ahead of the architects. Workshops have already taken place in day care centers and high schools of Lahti,” says the Radanvarsi-projects participatory designer Sara Ikävalko. Tiirismaa high school students have been working on scale models, bringing new ideas through the eyes of young people.
Radanvarsi idea competition is one of the largest architectural competitions carried out this year in Finland. A key part of the competition is the design for a new travelling center, combining the train and bus services.
The competition was launched in 2nd of April and is open to architects from all countries until 13th of September. The competition prizes make a total of nearly one hundred thousand Euros. The top prize is worth 36 000 Euros.
