Education

Lahti has invested heavily in further education. Many internationally successful Finnish designers have studied at the Lahti Institute of Design, which is part of Lahti University of Applied Sciences. Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Lahti University Consortium and Salpaus Further Education have over 11,500 fulltime students.

Arts and Languages

In Lahti, it is already possible at lower comprehensive school level (7-12 year olds) to select a school which specialises in e.g. music or art. It is also possible to pursue music or art studies up to polytechnic level. You can choose to study English, German, Swedish, French or Russian as your first foreign language. There is also a comprehensive school in Lahti, Tiirismaa public school, offering tuition in English only.

Sports Education

As a renowned sports city, Lahti invests in the education of talented athletes at comprehensive school level. The Sports Institute of Finland, which is based in Vierumäki near Lahti, is the most versatile centre of sports education in the country. In addition, Pajulahti Training Center, located on the outskirts of Lahti in Nastola, is one the leading sports and training centres in Finland.

Lahti University Consortium

The Lahti University Consortium is a network university established by four Finnish universities. It specialises in environmental, technical and economic sciences, as well as social and pedagogical sciences. The Department of Ecological and Environmental Sciences is the only science department of the University of Helsinki, which is located outside the greater Helsinki area.

Institute of Design

The Lahti Institute of Design is the most well known branch
of Lahti University of Applied Sciences. The institute offers higher education in the following fields:
