A key aim of environmental protection in the City of Lahti is to reduce the load on the environment and to prevent the spoiling of the environment.

Our area of activity includes different permit- and control-related tasks prescribed by law concerning the protection of the environment. The study of environmental space from the soil to surface- and ground water and air quality are a significant part of this field of work. The quality of the city air is being continually measured.

We try to increase the general environmental awareness of the city’s residents and businesses, through educational and advisory work on environmental issues, and through the performance of tasks connected with permit and control work. We maintain the city’s nature trails and, in co-operation with residents’ associations and other administrative bodies of the City, we develop the nature-friendly care of the environment. We promote the sustainable use of the area’s natural resources and the implementation of sustainable development in all the city’s operations.

Care of waterways and fishing are an important part of our work. We are responsible for such things as care of lakes, the stocking of fish and the sale of fishing licences.
