The Department of Education and Culture in the City of Lahti is responsible for providing education, library services, cultural events, sports facilities, museums, orchestral performances, theatre performances and youth services to the residents. The organisation comprises service units which are responsible for events and finances, as well as support functions and development teams.
 
The Department of Education and Culture in the City of Lahti aims to promote the lifelong learning and development of the city’s inhabitants, helping them take control of their lives and play an active part in their community, and improving their physical and mental well-being and psychological growth while also creating conditions for increasing the city’s appeal in the future.
