Schoolchildren

The aim of healthcare in schools is to promote the welfare of the school community and the health of the children, and to work with the pupils, other school welfare staff, teachers and parents to ensure healthy growth and development. Each school has a designated nurse and a doctor. Pupils are called for appointments according to the school’s healthcare programme either alone or with a parent. Parents can also contact the nurse directly with questions relating to the child’s health or welfare.

Pupils can seek the advice of the school nurse without making an appointment at agreed times. To see the doctor, pupils have to go via the school nurse. Surgery hours and call times vary from school to school. For more information, please refer to the list of contact details for school nurses in each area.

Student Healthcare

Upper secondary pupils and students in higher education have access to student healthcare, which aims to promote the students’ health and welfare and their ability to study. Students are entitled to healthcare if they spend at least 4 months in each calendar and academic year studying full time.

The nurse sees students for check-ups at intervals tailored for each student’s needs. Students can also book an appointment for a check-up themselves. The nurse gives advice on health-related questions, treats illnesses and injuries, and issues referrals when necessary.
