Health control

A safe, healthy and pleasant environment is one of the basic requirements of modern-day society. Nevertheless, such things as noise, cold, draughts, smells and unclean internal air can jeopardise health in houses, schools, day-cares, public buildings, the residential environment and other places which figure in our everyday lives. The control of such faults is a task of the health control authorities, as are statements already issued in the building permission stage as preventive work.

The monitoring of foodstuffs is also an important part of health control. The legal validity of package labelling, suspicions of spoiled food and food poisoning, the quality of household water, the cleanliness of swimming water and the safety of consumer goods are all the responsibility of health inspectors, both in the field and on the end of a telephone line. Objects of inspection include grocery stores, restaurants, kiosks, schools, market places, hairdressers and places where food is produced and stored. Product safety and chemicals also come within the sphere of health control, as does the supply of information and advice on pest control.

Neither do domestic pets fall outside such control - pet shops, the control of animal protection, other animal protection functions, as well as the efficiency of the city’s veterinary care all come under the watchful eye of the health inspector.
