Lahti has a unit specialised in receiving immigrants and giving them advice and guidance. The Immigrants’ Services unit deals with reception services for refugees and immigrants returning from the territories of the former Soviet Union, ensuring they have income in the initial stages, instructing and guiding them in general services and supporting them in situations of crisis. In addition, the unit takes part in immigrant integration planning in co-operation with the Employment Exchange. Support for immigrants who have moved to Lahti independently is dealt with as necessary at local social centres.

The staff of the Immigrant Services unit will assist you with practical matters. The notice board at the unit gives information on important topical matters such as the start of Finnish language courses and clubs. The unit organises events for refugees and immigrants who have just moved to Lahti, where the city authorities give lectures about activities.

Returning immigrants usually customers of the unit for 6-12 months. Refugees are customers for a period of three years.
