Technical and Environmental Services is divided into five profit centres.

Administration

The Administration Unit takes care of the sector’s centralised services such as human resources, legal matters, collection of charges, joint projects, finance, information management and maintenance, and general administration.

Municipal Engineering

The role of the Municipal Engineering Unit is to own, commission the building of and maintain the traffic system and areas of parkland, and to own and commission the building of recreational areas and harbours. The unit also looks after the official functions connected with bus traffic and provides support for bus transport.

Land Use

The Land Use Unit is responsible for the creation of a good and pleasant environment for residents and businesses, and for ensuring that the prerequisites exist for urban development, through planning and land policy, the control of their implementation and building technology. It is also in charge of the maintenance of the basic mapping and other local data required for the planning and building of the infrastructure as a whole, and for the carrying out of geological surveys.

Building inspection

Building inspection is a legally-required activity whose aim is the creation of a good environment. City planning and building inspection guide the construction process. Without qualified designers and management, it would be impossible to achieve a suitable end-result. Good construction demands expertise, professionalism and self-control. Official control supports good construction. Building inspection is also responsible for environmental health protection.
