For people today and in future, the best possibilities for a good life are based on a sustainable future. Taking part in this process focuses attention on local starting points and on citizens’ viewpoints, when searching for changes that satisfy the needs of sustainable development.
A better future could be a cleaner environment, fresh water and pleasant forests. Sustainable development also includes the possibility for meaningful work and clean food, as well as operating as part of a society based on equality.
What are we ready to do, and do we have the possibilities be part of things and to influence them? Deeds can be smaller or larger, but when we do sufficiently many of them, they combine to become great deeds. Let us live and work so that people now and in future can do the same. The idea of sustainable development has been practised in Lahti since 1993, in co-operation with the Lahti Environmental Forum network.
In addition to its official functions, the Control and Environmental Centre promotes sustainable development by encouraging residents of different ages and different parties to get involved in sustainable development activities, and by taking part in development projects both on a local and international level.
