All in all, 42% of the waste generated in dwellings was recycled as materials in our operating area. This figure includes the waste flows of the different waste management operators in the area.
Better recycling options and longer Saturday hours at waste reception stations
Residents in the Lahti region are served by seven waste reception stations all over our operating area. More than 140,000 customers visited our waste reception stations last year, and the number of visitors is on the increase.
By customer demand, the stations are now open for longer and will also open on Saturdays, at least during the April–October summer season. The waste reception stations accept waste generated in dwellings, but not ordinary household waste. That is, you can bring there waste generated when moving or renovating, hazardous waste, garden waste and furniture.
- Pilleri, the waste reception station in Lahti, has a collection point and warehouse store called KierrätysPaikka. When bringing your waste there, you can also leave them your usable household items, furniture and renovation materials for re-use. Households can take to the waste reception stations without charge items such as electrical equipment, wood waste and glass containers that will be recovered as material or in energy production. We are constantly trying to increase the recycling of different types of waste as soon as we find a way to re-use them, says Päivi Rahkonen, Service Manager at Päijät-Häme Waste Management Ltd.
Päijät-Häme Waste Management Ltd is jointly owned by 10 municipalities. With its 58.6% share, the City of Lahti is the principal owner of the company, and the company is part of Lahti City Group.
