Environmental health and animal welfare

The goal of the environmental health services is to ensure a healthy and safe living environment for people and animals.

The duties of the environmental health services include monitoring health protection, tobacco legislation and animal health and well-being, as well as veterinary services. The environmental health department acts as a permit and monitoring authority and provides guidance and counselling regarding the management of health risks related to the living environment.

The duties include inspections, sampling, processing notifications, issuing statements, providing guidance and counselling as well as animal medical care. Processing applications and notifications as well as a large portion of inspections carried out by the environmental health department require a fee.

Until the end of 2016, environmental health management in Nastola is carried out by the environmental health centre of the social and health group of Päijät-Häme.

Monitoring plan and rates

Monitoring work in the municipality is governed by a legally prescribed environmental health monitoring plan.

The fee rates are fee tables approved by the building committee of the Lahti region, which determine the fee amounts as well as their grounds. The monitoring plans and rate can be read under "Service and feedback."

Rural industry authority

Rural industry authority duties in Lahti are carried out by the joint operation area of the rural administration of Päijät-Häme.
