Lahti Region Environmental Review 2019 published

Monitoring of environmental indicators show the long-term commitment on environmental issues in Lahti region.

Hollola and Lahti collect together an annual environmental review, and we are happy to say the direction is favourable in most of the indicators.

The indicators show the development of the environment in the region, and which UN sustanable development goals the monitored topics answer. Also future plans and challenges are listed short.

From year 2019 we can bring up some examples of good development: Lahti winning the European Green Capital 2021 title, and Hollola sharpening its climate actions. Also CO2 emissions from energy production and industry have decreased and amount of nature conservation areas and protected plots and buildings have increased slightly. The share of ground water areas classified as poor condition has decreased slightly and condition of water bodies has improved slightly.

However, car depedency continued to increase, and many apartments have been planned on noisy areas even the implementation rate of measures of Lahti Noise Plan is only 12 %.

In her speech for World Environmental Day 5 June, Head of Lahti City Board Sirkku Hilden thanks all citizens, companies and other stakeholders for long-term commitment to environmental issues and encourages to continue for example good level of recycling. Speech in Finnish below.
