Public Libraries

The City of Lahti has a Main Library, seven branch libraries and the mobile library Saaga.

Visit the library when you are looking for information, want to learn something new, relax and enjoy yourself, find inspiration, experience something different or connect with other people.

Our libraries offer a wide range of materials for people of all ages. You can also take part in free events, group activities and guidance sessions. The groups are open to everyone, and you are welcome to attend regularly or simply drop in for a single session.

You can find all Lahti Libraries events in the event calendar.

Libraries are open spaces for everyone

Everyone is welcome at the library. Libraries are versatile spaces where you can pursue hobbies, work, study, meet friends and enjoy your time.

You can also organise meetings or events in library facilities.

With a library card and PIN, you can make use of our self-service hours and online services. Self-service access allows entry to all seven local libraries (Ahtiala, Jalkaranta, Kärpänen, Liipola, Mukkula, Nastola and Renkomäki) outside staffed service hours. Self-service access is available mainly every day from 6:00 to 22:00.

The library’s online services can be used anytime and anywhere. Through the Lastu Web Library, you can reserve both borrowed and available items and have them delivered to the library of your choice. A comprehensive selection of digital materials, literature, films and music is available online. You can also pay library charges through the online library.

You can obtain a personal library card from any Lastu library. The Lastu library network consists of the public libraries of the municipalities in Päijät-Häme. As a customer, you may use the collections of all participating libraries.

Dogs and other pets in Lahti Libraries

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome in all Lahti libraries.

Reading dogs and other reading pets visit Lahti libraries during scheduled programme times.

Pets are not permitted to remain in or move around the library. However, visitors with calm, small pets may make a brief visit to the library. For example, you may quickly return borrowed items or collect reservations. Dogs and other pets must be carried, kept on a lead, or transported in a suitable carrier.

Photography and filming in Lahti Libraries

Libraries are public spaces where small-scale photography and filming may be carried out during opening hours. Please inform us in advance if you are planning to film or take photographs: nora.nordman@lahti.fi

When planning photography or filming, please take the following into account:

Photography, filming and related arrangements must not interfere with the normal use of the library, its services or activities. All photography and filming must be organised so that customer areas, walkways, staircases, signage and services remain fully accessible. Photography must not disturb customers or members of staff while they are working. If people appear in photographs or recordings, it is considered good practice to ask for their permission. Customers or their faces must not be photographed without consent. To protect children’s privacy, photography or filming in children’s areas must not include identifiable images of young library users.
