Lahti’s Christmas Village is almost here! This program-packed event is a joint production by the City of Lahti and Lahti Parish Union, now in its tenth year in its current form. This year, in honor of Lahti’s 120th anniversary, the Christmas Village will shine brighter than ever. A special highlight is the artificial ice rink, which last featured in the Village during the winter of 2021–2022. Event Coordinator Suvi Mononen believes the rink will bring a new sense of joy and excitement to the festivities.
– We aim to organize different activities on the ice, and visitors are welcome to bring their own skates. However, because the rink is small and can get crowded, games played with hard pucks or balls are not allowed, Mononen explains.
The Christmas Village’s atmospheric evening concerts have delighted locals year after year, and once again, live music will fill the air every single day of the event. Miikka Kallio, musician for Lahti Parish Union and responsible for the music program, says he is extremely proud of this year’s lineup, which is even more diverse than in previous years.
– I’m happy that we’ve brought together talented and versatile performers from many different genres. I hope every visitor finds a concert they enjoy and experiences the true spirit of Christmas through great music, Kallio says.
As in previous years, there will be plenty of activities for children. This year, kids can enjoy hobbyhorse riding, cozy storytime by the campfire, and fun Christmas-themed tasks.
Lahti Christmas Village is a joint effort by the City of Lahti and Lahti Parish Union. Each year, the event attracts thousands of visitors from Lahti and beyond. During the Village, more than 40 vendors will offer their products at the market stalls.
More details about the program and schedule will be announced closer to the event. The Christmas Village program page will also go live at the beginning of December at lahdenjoulukyla.fi.
