The joint growth company would unify the international messaging of the region’s business and tourism development, strengthen advocacy work, and integrate the region’s attraction factors into investment promotion. The goal is to create the boldest and most distinctive growth company in Northern Europe, building an ambitious growth environment through coordinated investment marketing and tourism development.
“Our task is to raise the region’s profile as an excellent location for investment and to strengthen regional growth. We will continue the services that already work well, while aiming to further strengthen investment promotion, tourism growth and economic policy advocacy. Our expectation is to attract more business, more jobs and more international top companies to the region,” says Elina Laavi, Director of Economic Development at the City of Lahti.
As the largest owner of the two companies, the City of Lahti will consider proposed ownership guidance at the City Board meeting on 30 March. The intention is for the City Board to issue instructions for next steps and request views from the other shareholder municipalities.
The region-wide Chairman’s Forum expressed a positive view on the progress at its meeting on 13 March. If the shareholders support moving forward, the operational phase of the integration will begin. The objective is for Ladec and Lahti Region to start operating as a new organisation by 1 July 2026 at the latest.
