The Climate Mentor course differed from traditional climate education in schools by offering students guidance and personal mentoring on how to influence climate and environmental issues. The course was motivated by concern for the well-being of young people and a desire to strengthen their belief in the future and their ability to act as builders of a sustainable future.
The courses were held at Lahti´s high schools. In the final survey, the students who participated in the course described the benefits of the Climate Mentor course as follows:
– I feel that I have a fairly broad understanding of ways to make an impact. Thanks to the course, I now also better understand the significance of actions that may seem small.
– The course gave me new perspectives on climate change, such as its strong connection to working life, regardless of profession.
– The course gave me hope that even I can make a difference.
The mentors Anni Pokela and Sara Yrjönmäki, represent a new generation of young Finnish climate experts.
