Lahti turns 120 – join the birthday celebrations in City Hall Park on 31 October!

Lahti is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. The city is hosting birthday festivities in City Hall Park on Friday, 31 October. A diverse programme of events will take place throughout the anniversary week.

Lahti will mark its 120th anniversary with celebrations during the last week of October. The main Lahti120 event at City Hall Park will feature live music, speeches, historical highlights, children’s activities, coffee and a stage performance by Theatrum Olga.

Lahti officially turns 120 on 1 November, which coincides with All Saints’ Day this year. The city is holding the celebration one day earlier.

Events during the birthday week

Lahti Main Library on 28–29 October

Tiirismaan Puhaltajat will perform their autumn programme on Tuesday, 28 October. On the following evening, Wednesday, 29 October, the Lahti Poetry Evening will feature current and former Lahti poets.

The Lahti Story animation will be shown at Kino Iiris on 30 October

Kino Iiris will screen the animated video based on the Lahti Story on Thursday 30 October from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with Finnish and English versions alternating in a non-stop loop. Admission to the screenings is free. An illustrated animated video will be published on the Lahti website 31 October.

Lahti’s 120th anniversary festivities will take place in City Hall Park on 31 October

Lahti will celebrate its birthday with a public event in the City Hall Park. The celebrations will last from morning until evening. There will be a speech by Mayor Niko Kyynäräinen, and the recipient of the Lahti Citizen of the Year award will be announced.

City Hall Guided Tours on October 31

Welcome to Lahti City Hall! The building is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with access available through the main doors. More information about the tours will be available on Lahti.fi/120.

Free admission to Lahti City museums on October 31

Lahti Museum of Visual Arts Malva, the Historical Museum, the Ski Museum, and the Radio and Television Museum Mastola are offering free admission in honour of the city’s birthday.

Youth Centre Saima 6 October 30–November 1

The Youth Centre will host a horror theatre performance. There will also be a photography exhibition showcasing the history of youth services in Lahti over the decades. The exhibition will be open until 18 December.

Lahen Hohto – Light and Art event October 27–November 2

Light and Art event Hohto will take place from 27 October to 2 November. This diverse event will feature a range of visual and interactive art installations, as well as engaging performances and activities. Hohto is organised by the Lahti City Association.
