Lahti was invited to a rare high-level nature and health summit in France

Lahti is among a select group of cities worldwide invited by President Emmanuel Macron to participate in a high-level nature and health summit in Lyon, France, on 5–7 April.

At the local leaders’ meeting of the One Health World Summit, Lahti was represented by Milla Bruneau, the 1st Vice Chair of the City Board. Lahti received the invitation in recognition of its strong work in environmental sustainability, nature and health.

– We discussed how cities can contribute to solving major challenges related to climate change, biodiversity loss and public health. We want to continue close cooperation with leading cities also in the future, says Bruneau.

A new network of active cities is being prepared under the leadership of the City of Lyon. The aim is for Lahti to continue its strong network cooperation in the years ahead.

– One of Lahti’s strengths is close cooperation between the city, the wellbeing services county, higher education institutions, businesses, communities and residents. Addressing major challenges requires broad collaboration between different actors.

In Lahti, the Nature Step to Health programme is being implemented, reflecting the One Health approach.

The aim is to promote both environmental and human well-being simultaneously. This is based on the understanding that climate change and biodiversity loss are closely linked to human health and well-being. At the same time, cities and residents can influence their own well-being through their choices while also supporting the well-being of nature and other species.
