Operation Sandstorm will take place on 10–13 April

The timing of the intensive cleaning of the city centre streets – known as Operation Sandstorm – has been confirmed. The Toriparkki parking facility will be available free of charge for the duration of the operation.

The removal of winter sanding gravel has begun in Lahti. Due to the early timing, the work has begun lightly and weather forecasts are being monitored continuously. In addition to gravel removal, dust control measures are also being carried out.

According to the current plan, temporary relocation signs will start being placed on the streets of the city centre after Easter. Between Tuesday and Thursday (7–9 April), the aim is to clean areas covered by relocation signs, including the Ankkuri area, Kariniemenkatu area, as well as the areas around Paasikivenkatu and Ståhlberginkatu.

The actual city centre Sandstorm will take place between Friday, 10 April, and Monday, 13 April. During Sandstorm, winter sanding gravel will be removed from the city centre, and carriageways, parking areas, central reservations, and pedestrian and cycling paths will be washed. The operation covers a large area in the city centre.

Temporary relocation signs for vehicles will be placed in the area to be cleaned approximately 2–3 days before the work begins. Cars that have not been moved despite the relocation request will be moved to the Market Square (Kauppatori). The cost of relocation is 130 euros and will be charged to the vehicle owner. The relocation requests remain valid until the city removes the signs.

Residents may move their cars to Toriparkki. Toriparkki will be free of charge from Thursday, 9 April at 19 until Monday, 13 April at 9. The camera recognition in the parking app does not need to be disabled during parking.
