Water will flow in the musical fountain at Pikku-Vesijärvi Park this summer – shows expected to resume in the fall

The beloved musical fountain in Pikku-Vesijärvi Park will be reactivated in the coming weeks, bringing both beauty and environmental benefits to the area. While the popular shows will return later in the year, the fountain’s ecological role is already making a positive impact.

Spring maintenance of the musical fountain pool is currently underway, and the fountain is expected to be operational within a few weeks. However, the musical shows will not resume until at least the fall, as the system requires technical servicing. When the shows return, their soundscape will be more subdued than in previous years.

Fountain that supports nature

Beyond its visual appeal, the fountain plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of the park’s ponds. Water is pumped from Lake Vesijärvi into Pikku-Vesijärvi, where the fountain aerates it before returning the water to the lake. This circulation helps prevent algae growth and improves water quality by increasing oxygen levels, particularly through the bubbling action of the fountain.

Thanks to this process, the fountain helps keep the pond healthy and vibrant, supporting aquatic life and enhancing the overall park environment.

Vision for a vibrant city center

The fountain not only enlivens the park and delights visitors of all ages, but it also supports the goals of the “City Center Vision 2040,” which emphasises the importance of water, colour, and experiences in urban spaces.

Pikku-Vesijärvi Park continues to evolve according to a master plan developed in 2021. One of the key additions has been the Salpausselkä Adventure Area, built on the slope of Kariniemenmäki. This summer, a small play area will also be constructed as an extension of the parking lot.

The café in Pikku-Vesijärvi Park will not open this summer, as the condition of the kiosk no longer allows for café operations.
