Lahti has a long tradition of event volunteer work and the City of Lahti wants to maintain that. Therefor the City of Lahti Event Services has created a volunteer register for event volunteers.

Registration to volunteer for 2024 events is open!

You can now apply as a volunteer for the 2024 events. You can get to know the events and tasks by clicking on the events name from the menus below.

Volunteer tasks in 2024 events

  • Volunteer registration for Women’s U19 WFC has ended and the event organizer will contact all volunteers soon. Thank you for everyone who applied!

    Women´s U19 WFC will be played May 8th-12th 2024 in Lahti, Finland. Read more about the event here.

    Please note that for this event you need to attach your photo to the registeration form.

     

  • FNLD GRVL returns to Lahti in 2024! The event will take place on 15th of June, and you can now apply as a volunteer for the event. You can become a volunteer even if you have no previous experience; a positive attitude is enough!

    Lunch will be available for individual volunteers in work shifts of 6 hours or more.

    Volunteer recruitment for the event takes place through the GateHQ system. You can choose 3 different areas you want to work at so please familiarize yourself with the areas below and the tasks under them before volunteering.

    Competition

    Competition office

    This assignment involves working in the competition office. The duties include preparing the material to be distributed to the competitors, taking care of the registration of the competitors, and guiding the competitors. English language skills are required for the registration and guidance of competitors.

    Workdays: from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Aid stations

    This assignment involves working at the aid stations of the competition route. There are five aid stations. Duties at the aid stations include handing out sports drinks and gels to the competitors, bottling water and preparing sports drinks.

    Workdays: Saturday 15th of June 2024. The task might also include preparations on Friday 14th of June 2024.

    Finish line

    This assignment involves working at the finish line. The duties include preparing the finish line area, handing out different products for competitors who cross the finish line and also advising the competitors if needed.

    Workdays: Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Spectator services

    Information desk

    This assignment involves working at the information desk of the event and working as a guide at the event area. The duties include guiding and advising both the competitors and the spectators arriving at the event. Language skills in at least English are required. Other language skills are considered an advantage in this assignment.

    Workdays: from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Expo Area / Merchandise

    This assignment involves working at the events Expo Area. FNLD GRVL expo tent is located at the expo area and the duties include to building up the tent and put the products on display. During the opening times of the Expo Area the duties also include event product sales and customer service in cooperation with the organization. Language skills in at least English are required. Other language skills are considered an advantage in this assignment.

    Workdays: from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Administration

    Staff office

    This assignment involves working in the staff office of the event. The duties include assisting in matters related to staff accommodation, venue logistics, the reception, unloading and handing out of various shipments, maintaining inventory, printing and laminating, various office work, and the handing out and returning of gear for both volunteers and athletes.

    Workdays: from Tuesday 11th to Sunday 16th of June 2024.

    Security

    Traffic control

    This assignment involves working as a traffic controller at the event. The place of work can be located along the cycling route or in the parking area of the event.

    Age of 18 or over and a valid class B driving license are required for the assignment of traffic controller.

    Workdays: from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Security

    This assignment involves working as a security at the event. Age of 18 or over and a valid security steward license are required for this assignment.

    Workdays: from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Access control

    This assignment involves working at the event area and supervising access control to various areas (for example: bike park).

    Workdays: from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th of June 2024.

    Logistics

    Logistics team

    This assignment involves working in the logistics team of the event. The duties include moving vehicles along the race route on competition days, as well as working as a truck, van and/or forklift driver. A class C driving license and previous experience of driving a truck or forklift are considered an advantage in this assignment.

    Workdays: from Monday 10th to Sunday 16th of June 2024.

    Event construction

    Event construction team

    This assignment involves working in the construction team of the event. The duties mainly include:

    •  building and dismantling fence lanes
    •  building and dismantling tents
    • attaching/removing banners
    • assembling inflatable arches, flags and other branding materials, putting them in place, and dismantling and packing them after the competition.

    Workdays: from Wednesday 12th to Sunday 16th of June 2024.

    Catering

    Catering team

    This assignment involves working in the catering team of the event. The duties include helping to serve food and drinks for competitors and spectators, cleaning tables and other assisting tasks. Language skills in at least English are required. Hygiene Passport is considered an advantage.

    Workdays: Saturday 15th of June 2024.

  • The year 2024 brings another World Championship status event to Lahti, as the Flag Football World Championships will be held in Pajulahti for the first time ever in August.

    Became a volunteer for the Flag Football World Championships 2024 and help create a memorable event for both the audience and the competitors. Previous experience in the sport is not required for all roles, but a cheerful attitude and a willingness to learn are important. Training for all tasks will be provided during this spring.

    The volunteer application is open until the beginning of August, but positions will be filled as suitable individuals are found, and they will be contacted during the spring and summer.

    Volunteers are expected to have good communication and organizational skills, the ability to work in a team, and initiative. In addition, some knowledge of the sport is required for certain tasks. Commitment to the role and the readiness to work flexibly in various situations are also important. However, the most important thing is a cheerful and positive attitude!

    Competition

    Preparation and maintenance of performance areas

    This role involves working in a team that will be responsible for the construction, cleanliness, and functionality of the performance areas throughout the competition.

    Assistance with competition operations

    This role involves assisting in guiding teams and referees before and after games. Knowledge of the sport is beneficial for this role.

    Downmarker

    This role involves working on the sidelines counting the progress attempts and cooperates with the field referee team. The task requires knowledge of the English language and familiarity with the sport is beneficial.

    Statistics

    This role involves working with match statistics. Previous experience in statistics is beneficial.

    Anti-Doping escorts

    This role involves working as an anti-doping escort.

    Team Host

    This role involves working with teams, ensuring their comfort and the smooth handling of their needs. The task requires being 18 years of age, language skills, and local knowledge. The role also includes working at the airport to receive teams and guide them to buses, as well as assisting with lost luggage when necessary.

    Spectator services

    Information desk and spectators guide

    Thsi role involves working at the information desk for the spectators or as a guide and the tasks are helping, guiding, and directing spectators in Pajulahti and on Friday in Lahti. The role also involves maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of the area. An important aspect of the role is a cheerful and energetic attitude.

    VIP Guide

    This role involves working as a guide for VIP guests and ensures their comfort during their visit. The position requires being 18 years of age, language skills, and local knowledge.

    Partner Activation

    This role involves working at the SAJL promotent, running activities there, and assists at different partners’ points during the event.

    Mascot

    This role involves working as a event mascot. An energetic attitude and initiative are advantageous. Performance skills are considered a plus.

    Administration

    Accreditation

    This role involves working at the accreditation team. This task involves the accreditation of volunteers, teams, media, and stakeholders, and ensures the accreditation of teams, media, volunteers, and VIP guests at various points.

    Communication

    Communication Team

    This role involves working in the event’s communication team, and the task is to produce text, image, and video content for communication channels. Previous experience in content production and fluent oral and written skills in Finnish and English are desired.

    Media

    Media Services

    This role involves working in media services, where the task is to assist both domestic and international media at media points. The role requires knowledge of the English language.

    TV Runners

    This role involves assisting tasks for the competition’s TV production.

    Catering

    Food service team

    This role involves working in the event’s food service team, taking care of the coffee service for volunteers and officials during the event.

    Security

    Access Controllers

    This role involves working as an access controller at the event. The task involves operating both in the Pajulahti area and at the Lahti stadium, checking the access rights of accreditation passes during the event. The role requires situational awareness, precision, and a customer service spirit.

    Transportation and Logistics

    Drivers

    This role involves working as a driver at the event, serving as a driver for both logistics and personnel transportation. The role requires a B driving license.

    Event construction

    Event construction and maintenance team

    This role involves working in the event’s construction and maintenance team. The task involves building and dismantling the competition area before and after the competitions. Additionally, the role includes installing the event’s ambiance and signs, marking pathways, decorating spaces, and collecting all displayed items after the event.

    Environment

    Environmental team

    This role involves working in the event’s environmental team, taking care of the cleanliness and comfort of the area.

After registering, you should monitor your e-mail, as all information and communication takes place primarily by e-mail. Volunteers will be contacted by the event organiser soon after the information of the volunteers who signed up and agreed to the disclosure of their information is transferred to the event organiser by the City of Lahti.
