How do students like living in Lahti? A study examines their daily lives and future plans

What makes Lahti, Finland’s most promising university city, a great place for students? The “Student City 2026” study examines what students in Lahti value and what kinds of changes they hope to see in their student city. The results provide insights into students’ experiences to inform decisions made by the city and higher education institutions.

Today, Lahti is home to a growing number of college students. But what factors make the city a place where students can enjoy their daily lives and want to stay after graduation? In the “City of Students” study launching in Lahti, students themselves will have their say.

The study asks a wide range of questions about topics important to students’ daily lives, such as housing, income, transportation, services, and community life. It also explores how students view job opportunities in the Lahti region and whether they would like to stay in the area after graduation.

Respond by November 15

The survey is aimed at higher education students studying in Lahti. We hope to include both Finnish and international students at various stages of their studies so that the results reflect the daily lives of as wide a range of students as possible.

Three 50-euro S Group gift cards and ten City of Lahti product packages will be raffled off among respondents who provide their contact information.

The results can be used, for example, in planning housing, transportation, and services. They reveal what students in Lahti value and where they would like to see changes.

In Lahti, the City of Lahti, LUT and LAB Universities of Applied Sciences, the KOE Student Union, and the LUT University Student Union are participating in the study. The survey is being conducted by the Otus Foundation for Research on Learning and Education and Männikkömetsä Oy.

The deadline for responses is November 15, 2026.
