The renovated traffic city at Laune Family Park has opened to the public. “Mini-Lahti” was chosen as the theme for the traffic city in a vote by children. Children were also consulted during the planning process through a drawing contest, and based on the contest, an entrance sign designed by the winner was installed on the eastern edge of the traffic city.
The area features playful references to Lahti’s well-known landmarks and surroundings. In Mini-Lahti, visitors can explore, among other things, Pikku-Vesijärvi Park with its bridges, Lahti Market Square, a canopy inspired by Sibelius Hall, and a construction site block depicting a developing city. A railroad also runs along the edge of traffic city, and the area features ski jump towers and radio masts familiar to Lahti residents.
Traffic city has been part of Laune Family Park since 1989. The structures in the area had reached the end of their useful life, which is why the traffic city underwent a complete renovation.
The goal of the renovation was to preserve the area’s popular core concept while diversifying its activities and making the environment even more attractive, functional, and enjoyable. The traffic city will continue to provide children with a safe environment to learn traffic rules and practice getting around through play.
In addition to the traffic city, several new facilities have been completed in recent months in Laune Central Park and Family Park. Among other things, a new outdoor gym, a parkour area, a hobby horse track, and new recreational areas are now open.
The completion of traffic city will be celebrated on 16 October
The opening of traffic city will be celebrated on Friday, 16 October, from 17 to 18.30.
The city will offer visitors juice boxes, and rental equipment will be made available before being stored away until spring. Liikenneturva and the southern partnership table will also be participating in the event. The event is free and open to everyone.
