The opening of the newly renovated skate park, located in Laune Central Park, will be celebrated on Saturday, May 9, starting at noon. The program includes speeches, opportunities to try out the sport, demonstrations, competitions, and skate films from Lahti. The event is free of charge and open to everyone interested in skating, regardless of age.
The renovation of the Laune skate park has been a large-scale skateboarding project by Finnish standards. An area was built in the central park that serves all hobbyists, from beginners to experienced skaters. In addition to skateboarding, visitors can also inline skate, do bike tricks, and scooter at the park.
The skate park was designed in close cooperation with Lahti Skateboarders Association, Lahen Rullalautailijat Ry, and other local skate enthusiasts.
The opening day program is organized by Pinna Skateboarding. The event is open to everyone, and newcomers can try the sport with guidance from experienced skaters.
The Malva Museum of Visual Arts in Lahti will also participate. Malva will present skate videos made in Lahti and host a station where visitors can create images from their everyday life and share ideas on what Malva should offer in the museum, in Lahti, and in the Päijät-Häme region.
A separate event for scooter riders will also be held at the skate park on May 17.
