Venditti has appeared as a guest conductor with numerous prestigious orchestras across Europe and internationally, and her work has been praised for its energy, precision and powerful musical communication. In her recent engagements with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, she made a strong impression on both orchestra and audiences alike.
– As well as appreciating her considerable expertise, the orchestra particularly values Venditti’s open and collaborative approach to working with the musicians, says Vesa Lehtinen, chairman of the orchestra board.
The appointment further strengthens the orchestra’s international profile and opens up opportunities for new artistic collaborations, while supporting its long-term artistic development.
– Nil Venditti is one of the most interesting and sought-after conductors of our time. Her work combines exceptional energy, profound musicality and the ability to inspire the orchestra. We have high hopes for our future collaboration, says Maija Kylkilahti, general manager of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
Nil Venditti says:
– I keep thinking about the very first notes we shared together – that mix of curiosity, joy, warmth, trust and stubborn pride that defines the sound of this orchestra.
– To become the new Chief Conductor of Lahti Symphony Orchestra means finding a home among these people, in their music and in the traditions they carry forward – and I’m incredibly grateful and honoured for that. There’s a trust in the air here that you can feel with every breath, and a curiosity I can’t wait to discover, nurture and share with our audiences and communities.
– Lahti is a unique place, full of tradition, with an orchestra that has its own distinctive voice. I’m excited about the music, the laughter and the long road ahead – and I cannot wait to begin this new chapter and see where it takes all of us. Forward.
The Chief Conductor’s contract runs for three years, with an option for two additional years, and includes a minimum of six performing weeks per year. Venditti will take up the position at the beginning of the 2027/28 season.
The appointment does not include the artistic directorship of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra’s International Sibelius Festival.
