A shared departure time display for the new downtown bus stops has been installed next to the main entrance of Trio. The display shows passengers which buses are departing soon, along with their departure times and departure stops. A map next to the summary display helps passengers find the correct stop.
The new pilot stops on Vesijärvenkatu have also been equipped with stop-specific schedule displays. Going forward, real-time stop displays will be available at all stops on Kauppatori and Trio, with the exception of the stop on Aleksanterinkatu located between Vesijärvenkatu and Lanunaukio.
The stop pilot (which began on August 10) has gotten off to a smooth start, and bus service has been running well. Timetable adherence has also been at a good level.
No feedback has been received through the stop trial’s feedback channel, nor has any significant congestion been observed on Vesijärvenkatu. The effectiveness of the current bicycle ban at the Vesijärvenkatu bus stops continues to be monitored. Markings have been clarified and made more visible, including through the use of street art.
Summer construction sites in the city center did not slow down foot traffic. According to the pedestrian counter on Aleksanterinkatu, 1.13 million people walked or cycled through the area between May 1 and August 15. The corresponding figure for 2025 was 1.08 million people.
The construction site currently underway at the corner of Aleksanterinkatu and Vesijärvenkatu is not related to the bus stop pilot, it is a separate electrical grid project by Lahti Energia. Other work is also still being done in the area, such as finishing touches on the paving, which do not affect pedestrian traffic.
The goal of the downtown bus stop pilot and the public transit quality corridors implemented this summer is to streamline public transit, increase its appeal, and achieve cost savings.
