Monitoring work in Lahti
Food monitoring covers the manufacture, handling, import and export, marketing, transportation, selling, serving or other provision of foodstuffs. There are approximately 730 monitored facilities in Lahti. The monitoring is carried out by health inspectors and the city veterinarian.
The monitoring of facilities is implemented on a risk basis in accordance with the food monitoring plan. Inspections in accordance with the monitoring plan comply with the Oiva monitoring system.
Oiva uses smiley faces to assess a company's foodstuff safety. The best smiley means that food law requirements are being met. You can find a company's Oiva report usually near the entrance to the food establishment or at the Oivahymy.fi website (in Finnish).
Food industry companies are responsible for food safety
The self-monitoring of foodstuffs is also monitored and guided by the supervisory authority, but the operator bears the responsibility for implementing the self-monitoring and for the safety of the foodstuffs it produces.
