A day full of events – join Lahti’s birthday celebration on November 1st

Lahti city is turning 118 years old on November 1st. Here's the program and events for this celebration day.

Open doors at the newly renovated City Hall

You are welcome to visit Lahti City Hall! The doors are open from 12.00 to 18.00 on November 1st.

The City Hall, designed by Eliel Saarinen, has been renovated to preserve its historical significance. The inner courtyard has been covered and transformed into a warm space for the use of the city and its residents. At the same time, this late Art Nouveau building has been transformed into a modern workplace for 165 people.

Entrance is through the inner courtyard tower door, from the side of Harjukatu.

Sinfonia Lahti Quartet presents: Finnish Popmusic from Classics to Piazzolla

In honor of Lahti’s birthday and the renovated City Hall, music will be played in the City Hall’s inner courtyard at 14.30 and 15.30. Each performance will last for about 20 minutes.

Entrance is through the inner courtyard tower door, from the side of Harjukatu.

City-wide birthday celebration at the market square

Partnership tables, Kumppanuuspöydät,  are organizing activities for the whole family. Music will be provided by Miikka Kallio Band and Mikael Saari. The program also includes children’s music from SUPER Theater and community singing, as well as the announcement of Lahti’s Person of the Year. Coffee will be served to the first 500 guests starting from 16.30.

Aleksi’s winter lights will be switched on

The story of a winter skiing journey has been delighting the people of Lahti since 1983. The lights will be turned on at 17.00.

Nordic Walking Journey into Skiing History

The Sports Services and Lahti Ski Club are organizing a Nordic walking journey with a historical theme related to the World Ski Championships and Salpausselkä competitions. The guide for the journey is Juha Kolu, the chairman of Lahti Ski Club. The journey starts in front of the Ski Museum at 17.30.

Costumes and Props at the City Theater

In celebration of a century of theatrical activities in Lahti, the theater lobby will feature photographs, costumes, and props from different decades. The 40-year-old theater building will also be showcased. Open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11.00 to 17.00.

18+ So(ber) Halloween

The Youth Services Halloween event So(ber) Halloween takes place at the Möysä Music Club from 19.00 to 23.00. The event features Sirkus Kolmen kopla, Dj Raivo, Mahdollistamo’s dance group, Dj Imppu, and Isaac Sene, a modern soul-infused pop artist. The best Halloween costume of the night will be awarded.
