Under the Cherry Trees will be organised for the first time as a new kind of collaboration with international students from LAB University of Applied Sciences. Students from the Multicultural Teamwork and Community-Based Projects course will take part in producing the event, with the aim of increasing encounters between international students and other residents of Lahti. As an international student city, Lahti benefits from spaces and events that bring people together to meet, take part and get to know one another. The Central Lahti Residents’ Association is also involved in organising the celebration.
Local schoolchildren are part of the programme as well: class 3G from Tiirismaa School will run a pancake stand at the event. The first 250 visitors will be offered pancakes and juice free of charge.
The programme includes live music, featuring musicians from the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, as well as a wide range of activities for all ages. For children and families there will be, for example, a painted-stone workshop inspired by Finstones, a table tennis point and a spotting bingo.
