Youth services activities and favorites
Youth centers and their surrounding areas will once again host a wide range of fall break activities for young people in Lahti. The lineup includes perennial favorites requested by young people, such as Megazone, sleepovers, cooking workshops, and gaming sessions.
For some of the activities, you must register in advance using online forms; links to these forms are available at youth centers or from counselors at school. Registration begins on Monday, October 5, at 3:00 p.m. and ends on Sunday, October 11, at 11:00 p.m.

Mini-Lahti Traffic City invites you for a ride
The new Mini-Lahti Traffic City at Laune Family Park will be ready just in time to delight fall break visitors. The new parkour area and skate park at Keskuspuisto also invite you to spend active days during the break.
Swim, jump, and try the Wibit water obstacle course
The City of Lahti’s four swimming pools in Kivimaa, Lahti, Nastola, and Saksala invite you to swim and enjoy various water sports, as well as access the gym at a discounted rate with a swimming pass.
- You can jump from the diving tower and springboard at the Lahti Swimming Hall on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., when the entire deep end will be reserved for divers. During this time, the fitness track will be closed.
- Throughout the entire fall break week, Sunday through Sunday, October 18–25, 2026, from 2:30–4:30 p.m., during which time the fitness swimming lane will also be available.
Children and the young at heart can test their skills on the Wibit water obstacle course on two Sundays: October 18 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Nastola Swimming Hall and October 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kivimaa Swimming Hall. Access to the Wibit course is included in the regular swimming hall admission fee. Participants must be able to swim at least 50 meters. If you can swim 25–50 meters, you may access the Wibit course only while wearing a Wibit life jacket, which will be available during the event.
Free public skating sessions, trick skating sessions, and skateboarding
Free public skating sessions—mostly without sticks—are available at the RTK Arena for the whole family as follows:

Free play sessions for the whole family are available in the Harjula Hall on Tue, Oct. 20, from 1:00–2:30 p.m. and on Wed, Oct. 21, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. You’re also welcome to use the hall on your own. No advance registration required. A supervisor will be present during the session, but no childcare or guided exercise activities will be provided. Families are invited to try skateboarding in a relaxed atmosphere and at their own pace at Vipukulma Skatepark’s open house on Monday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Saturday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Skateboards, helmets, and protective gear are available to borrow, and professional instructors will be on hand to help and provide guidance.

Programs for children, youth, and the whole family at Lahti’s museums
Exhibitions, programs, and Malva art workshops at the city’s four museums are free for those under 18. Adults can participate in Malva workshops for the price of a museum admission ticket or with a Museum Card.
Malva invites you to explore, marvel, and create
- Oct. 17–24: On an “Exploration Trip to the Museum,” visitors can discover the museum’s wonders. Art exploration tools are available for children to borrow for a self-guided museum tour.
- Sat, Oct. 17, 12:00–3:00 p.m.: Open art workshop for all museum visitors.
- Tue, Oct. 20, 11:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., and Sat, Oct. 24, 11:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m.: Guided tour of the “Symbiosis” exhibition for children—a playful nature excursion.
- Tue, Oct. 20, 12:00–3:00 p.m. Open art workshop for schoolchildren ages 7–13. The workshop will focus on a nature theme inspired by the “Symbiosis” exhibition.
- Wed, Oct. 21, 12:00–2:00 p.m. In the “Child & Adult” art workshop, participants will work together to create their own artwork. There is room for 20 participants. Please reserve a spot in advance for each participant through the museum’s online store.
- Thu, Oct. 22, 12:00–3:00 p.m.: Open art workshop for schoolchildren and teens ages 7–17. Inspired by the exhibition *Layers of Being*, the workshop focuses on depicting the human figure and creating self-portraits.

At the Ski Museum
you can “jump off the Lahti concrete”—that is, the Lahti large hill—using a game-based simulation, try out the interactive iWall game wall, try biathlon, practice precision snowball throwing, or make a miniature ski jumper take off. At the L.U.M.I. exhibition, you can build snowflakes, crawl into a winter sleeping cave, and wade through a snowy ball pit.
At the Radio and TV Museum in Mastola
you can try your hand at making a weather report and watch old children’s shows. Tuijottelutuokio – Ylen 100 vuotta lasten taajuuksilla exhibition invites visitors on a journey back to childhood to encounter familiar characters, memorable shows, children’s programming classics, and media memories that bridge generations—from the early days of radio to today’s streaming era.
Lahti Historical Museum
Mau! Mosse the cat from Lahti Manor has taken photos of his favorite items in the Hyvä paikka exhibition. A historian or archaeologist needs sharp wits and keen observation skills—can you find all of Mosse’s favorites? In the museum scavenger hunt for children ages 3 and up, participants search for and marvel at the objects found in the museum together with an adult during the museum’s opening hours.
Lahti City Theater
The Lahti City Theater’s main stage will feature the iconic gangster musical Kolmen pennin ooppera, directed by theater director Lauri Maijala, and the play Lentävä ruotsalainen – arktinen katastrofi 1897, written by Linda Wallgren and Anna Kuusamo and based on true events.
The small stage will be taken over by Hyvin toimeentulevat ihmiset , based on the novel by Lahti-based author Kerttu Kaarina Suosalmi, as well as Tea ja Tyhmentäjä, an adventure full of big emotions for children ages 6 and up. During fall break week, Lahti’s libraries will be open and operating as usual
Music, movies, books, board games, and sports equipment are available for checkout. At the main library, you can play console games in the game room, play musical instruments in the hobby rooms, watch movies and TV shows, or listen to concerts in the music department’s TV room. In the studio, you can record your own podcast, or in the editing room, you can edit video footage—even for your own vlog.
Events are held throughout the week not only at the Lahti Main Library but also at the Mukkula, Kärpänen, and Nastola libraries.
At the Lahti Main Library
- Tue, Oct. 20, 6:00–7:00 p.m. Musakirjastomuistoja: In the “Erätauko” discussion, themed around the library’s 150th anniversary, we’ll look back on the history of the music library and share memories related to the library over the years.
- Two Language Cafés: Tue, Oct. 20, 10:00–11:00 a.m., for mothers and children; and Wed, Oct. 21, 5:30–6:30 p.m., to practice Finnish in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Thu, Oct. 22, 2:00–3:30 p.m.: Vauvavuoden lukupiiri, offering reading recommendations suited to everyday life with a baby and an opportunity to chat with other families.
- Wednesday, October 21, 6:00–7:00 p.m.: Author Helena Steen: Originally from Lahti and now living in England, the author will discuss her work, the writing process, and themes in literature.
Mukkulan kirjaston Kirjastokerho meets on Wed, Oct. 21, 1:00–3:00 p.m., Kärpäsen neulojat on the same day from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., and Nastolan kirjaston Kirjoituspaja on Thursday, October 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. At the writing workshop, you can try your hand at creative writing in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
