At the meeting, Lahti will share its experiences in integrating health and environmental work. At the same time, a city representative will join the Cork Call to Action for Climate and Health, through which European cities strengthen their cooperation on climate and health issues.
In Lahti, health and environmental goals have been integrated since 2022 through the Nature Steps to Health program. The ten-year program examines people’s well-being and the state of the environment as a single, integrated whole.
– The ‘A Step Toward Health Through Nature’ program combines health and the environment in a way that’s generating a lot of interest internationally as well, says Bruneau.
Bruneau will speak on Monday, October 5, during the Moving Cities for Healthier Lives panel discussion on sustainable mobility.
– At their best, mobility solutions simultaneously benefit health, the climate, and the daily lives of city residents, Bruneau says.
Bruneau will participate in all thematic sessions and discussions during the two-day conference. He also represented Lahti last spring at the summit on nature-based health organized by President Emmanuel Macron in Lyon. Lahti was one of the few cities in the world invited to the event.
The WHO summit is organized by the WHO European Healthy Cities Network.
