The water quality at Lahti’s beaches is good, but small amounts of blue-green algae have been detected at the beaches. Beachgoers must follow the beach rules.
The final water samples of this swimming season for the City of Lahti’s beaches were collected on August 4 from all public beaches. The microbiological quality of the water samples was good at all public beaches. Water temperatures ranged from 19.6 to 21.6 degrees Celsius. Windy weather has clearly kept water temperatures in check. Trace amounts of blue-green algae have been detected in the bathing waters at the beaches. The test results are available on the city’s website and on the bulletin boards at the beaches. A list of beaches is available on the city’s website.
Monitor the amount of blue-green algae
The amount of blue-green algae in swimming water varies depending on weather conditions. During warm periods, blue-green algae may be present in large quantities. Small amounts of blue-green algae generally do not cause symptoms in swimmers. However, it is recommended to take a shower after swimming. If there is a large amount of blue-green algae in the water, you should avoid swimming. Blue-green algae can cause skin redness and itching, eye or nose symptoms, as well as vomiting and diarrhea. Symptoms usually appear within a few hours of exposure to blue-green algae.
Following the rules at swimming beaches is important for everyone’s enjoyment
- Bringing pets to public swimming areas is prohibited
- Camping, fishing, smoking, and pitching tents are not permitted at swimming beaches
- Feeding birds is not allowed at swimming beaches
- To keep the beaches clean and pleasant, please do not leave trash on the ground
