There are already nearly 9,000 college students studying in Lahti. This fall, about 600 new students will begin their studies at LUT University and 1,300 students at LAB University of Applied Sciences.
Events organized by student organizations will also be visible on the streets during the first week of September. The banners on Aleksanterinkatu are the city’s welcome to new students.
More and more study options
There are three institutions of higher education in Lahti: LUT University, LAB University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Helsinki.
At these institutions, you can study subjects such as business, energy, environmental science, information technology, or design. Courses are available through continuing education as well as degree programs ranging from associate’s degrees to master’s degrees.
This fall, a new Bachelor’s program in Business Administration will launch at LUT’s Lahti campus, and a new program for laboratory analysts will begin at LAB. The range of programs will expand further next fall, when Bachelor’s degree programs in Chemical Engineering and Civil and Urban Engineering begin in Lahti. In the future, Lahti will also produce PhDs in civil and environmental engineering.

Lahti is an international university city
Lahti aims to strengthen its position as a university and eco-city. This is a key objective and the foundation for how the city will grow, renew itself, and thrive in the future.

An increasing number of students studying in Lahti come from abroad. International students bring new expertise, international networks, and diversity to the city.
The international buddy program at LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences helps foreign-language students settle into life in Lahti. Any Lahti resident who wants to help an international student get to know Finnish culture and everyday life can sign up for the program.
