Lahti’s swimming waters are fresh and of good quality

The swimming waters at Lahti’s beaches are of good quality, but small amounts of blue‑green algae and pollen have already been observed. Please follow the rules at the beaches.

Official inspections have been carried out at the City of Lahti’s beaches, and the first water samples were taken on 2 June from public beaches, known as EU beaches.

The microbiological quality of the water samples was good at all public beaches. Water temperatures ranged between 16 and 17.9 degrees.

Small amounts of blue‑green algae have already been detected in the swimming waters at Ankkuri, Herrasmanni, Likolampi, Merrasjärvi, Mukkula and Möysä beaches. No blue‑green algae was detected at Mytäjäinen beach on the sampling day. Small amounts may also occur at other beaches. Pollen has been observed in the swimming waters at several EU beaches.

The results are available on the city’s website. They will be delivered to the beaches at the start of the week.

The next sampling round will take place on 23 June. Samples will then be taken from all official beaches. The list of beaches is available on the city’s website.

Monitor blue‑green algae levels

Small amounts of blue‑green algae do not usually cause symptoms for swimmers. However, it is recommended to shower after swimming. If there is a large amount of blue‑green algae in the water, swimming should be avoided. Blue‑green algae can cause skin redness and itching, eye or nasal symptoms, as well as vomiting and diarrhoea. Symptoms usually appear within a few hours of exposure.

More information about blue‑green algae and beaches is available on the City of Lahti website.
