The renewal of Pikku-Vesijärvi Park is being carried out in phases. The most visible change this summer will be the construction of a new seating area to replace the dilapidated kiosk building.
The overall renewal of the park is based on the master plan for Pikku-Vesijärvi Park. The plan includes ideas for café operations along Kariniemenkatu, but for now the intention is to wait for decisions concerning Kisapuisto before moving forward with this.
However, applications can be submitted for sales spots for mobile food trucks within the park. Locations have also been reserved along Satamaradanraitti for possible kiosks. Mobile sales locations will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as there is very limited technical infrastructure available in the area.
A great deal of new activity and functionality has been introduced to the park in recent years. Last autumn, a park games area was completed on the Jalkarannantie side of the park. The previous autumn, a Salpausselkä-themed adventure playground for children and an outdoor fitness area were completed on the slope of Kariniemenmäki.
The park’s tree population is aging, and despite ongoing maintenance, some trees must be removed each year for safety reasons. Replacement trees or new species are planted in place of large removed trees to maintain the arboretum, or tree species park.
The Water Organ fountain will begin to flow again once spring maintenance is completed, and it appears that Water Organ performances can be enjoyed again this summer.
